Traducción y viajes: el traductor como mediador intercultural

Abstract

[EN] As of today, travelling, and, therefore, travel literature, are intrinsically linked to the ideas that declare that travelling is a two-way trajectory in which the cultural shock takes place and translation relationships arise. Under this assumption, an analysis of the current state of this issue will be carried out considering the importance of the space and basing the development of the ideas in the theoretical framework that Cronin, Polezzi and Vidal propose, being all of them scholars of the intricate relationships that every cultural exchange involves. The three books chosen, which belong to travel literature, are examples of some of the attitudes the traveler may chose in this context. The results include, thus, that travelling is no longer a simple displacement; instead, it has developed spatial, ethnic, cultural, inter alia, connotations. In the time of globalization, travelling as a translator has become the only way to interact with the Other.

[SP] Actualmente, el viaje, y, por tanto, la literatura de viajes, no se pueden concebir sin entender que los viajes son una trayectoria de ida y vuelta en la que se produce un choque cultural de relaciones traductológicas. Partiendo de esta premisa, se analizará el estado de la cuestión considerando la importancia del espacio y teniendo en cuenta el marco teórico que proponen Cronin, Polezzi y Vidal, estudiosos de las complejas relaciones que se establecen en estas situaciones. La selección de tres obras representativas de la literatura de viajes posibilitará analizar algunas posturas que puede adoptar el viajero en dicho intercambio cultural. De esta forma, se podrá afirmar que el viaje ya no es un mero desplazamiento, sino que ha adquirido connotaciones espaciales, étnicas, culturales, etc. En la era de la globalización, viajar adoptando la postura de un traductor se ha convertido en la única forma de interaccionar con el Otro.
