Diferencias en percepción, habilidades visoespaciales, movimientos oculares y actividad neuronal entre artistas visuales y no artistas: una revisión sistemática

Abstract

[ES]En los últimos años, ha aumentado el interés por las artes visuales, y uno de los aspectos que se han estudiado son las posibles diferencias entre artistas visuales y no artistas en distintos ámbitos. El objetivo de esta revisión es analizar las investigaciones realizadas hasta el momento sobre las diferencias entre expertos (i.e., artistas) y no expertos (i.e., no artistas) en artes visuales en cuanto a percepción, habilidades visoespaciales, movimientos oculares y actividad neuronal. Para ello, tras realizar una serie de búsquedas en la base de datos Web of Science, se han recopilado un total de 28 artículos científicos. Tras el análisis de estos estudios, se puede concluir que los artistas, en comparación con los no artistas, poseen una mejor capacidad de codificación y procesamiento de información visual, una mayor habilidad para el dibujo, y tienen un mejor rendimiento en tareas perceptivas, y de manipulación y retención de información visual. En cuanto a los movimientos oculares, se ha observado que los artistas presentan un menor número de fijaciones, movimientos sacádicos más amplios, y fijaciones más cortas que los no artistas. Además, los artistas utilizan estrategias de procesamiento global. Respecto a la actividad neuronal, se ha encontrado actividad en un gran número de regiones cerebrales en ambos hemisferios, aunque los resultados de los estudios parecen indicar una mayor activación del hemisferio derecho de los artistas. También se ha encontrado una mayor sincronía de la banda delta en los artistas, mientras que los no artistas muestran una mayor sincronía de la banda alfa.[EN]In recent years, interest in the visual arts has increased, and one of the aspects that have been studied are the possible differences between visual artists and non-artists in different domains. The aim of this review is to analyse the research carried out so far on the differences between experts (i.e., artists) and non-experts (i.e., non-artists) in visual arts in terms of perception, visuospatial skills, eye movements and neural activity. For this purpose, after a series of searches in the Web of Science database, a total of 28 scientific articles have been collected. After the analysis of these studies, it can be concluded that artists, compared to non-artists, have a better capacity for encoding and processing visual information, a greater ability for drawing, and have a better performance in perceptual tasks, and manipulation and retention of visual information. In terms of eye movements, it has been observed that artists have fewer fixations, larger saccadic movements, and shorter fixations than non-artists. In addition, artists use global processing strategies. Regarding neural activity, activity has been found in a large number of brain regions in both hemispheres, although the results of the studies seem to indicate a greater activation of the right hemisphere of artists. A greater synchrony of the delta band has also been found in artists, while non-artists show a greater synchrony of the alpha band.
