| dc.description.abstract | Against the backdrop of the sociology of translation (Bourdieu, 1992; DiMaggio & Powell, 1983; Lefevere, 1998; Casanova, 2002; Heilbron & Sapiro, 2007; Franssen & Kuipers, 2011; Brems et al., 2017), imagology (Beller & Leerssen, 2007; Van Doorslaer, Flynn & Leerssen, 2016), and socio-narrative theory (Baker, 2006), this study examines how the image of two ‘typically’ Dutch and two ‘typically’ Flemish novels is conveyed to the French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish literary fields. The analysis in this paper follows three steps—the role of literary funds from the source culture, the translator, and the publisher from the target culture—that align with the three phases in which imagology impacts the translation process, as identified by Kuran-Burçoğlu (2000): the presentation of the source text, the translation, and the reception of the target text. This study includes both a paratextual component (websites of agents from both the source and target cultures) (Genette, 1987) and a textual component (text fragments from the four literary works and their translations), with a particular emphasis on the labeling and translation of ‘typical’ stylistic features (Soenen, 1997). | es_ES |
