Professores E Escolas. A Imagem Social do Professor do Ensino Básico no Portugal Contemporâneo (1973 – 2005)

Abstract

[ES] En el presente trabajo se procura evidenciar los factores que desafían la profesionalidad docente en el cuadro de nuestra contemporaneidad e influencian la imagen social de la profesión, teniendo sobre todo en referencia la situación de los profesores de la enseñanza básica. El proceso de revisión bibliográfica que sustentó el encuadre teórico se centró en el retrato de la profesión docente en un marco de sociedad educativa iluminado por el ideal de una “educación a lo largo de toda la vida y para todos”. Se intentó sobre todo entender en qué medida las transformaciones de la sociedad se reflejan en la escuela portuguesa y en el paradigma de desempeño de los profesores. La sociedad del siglo XXI surge como una sociedad fuertemente compleja, en proceso de mutación acelerada y confrontándonos con un tiempo incierto, fluido y vulnerable. Muchos interrogantes, centrados en la no ocultación del ethos de la profesión y de la imagen social, han motivado un estudio empírico desarrollado en torno a los principales problemas, dilemas y desafíos éticos de la profesión, destacando aún los fenómenos de reconocimiento y visibilidad social, considerando las percepciones de los propios docentes y la percepción de otros actores, designadamente de cuadros técnicos, intentando evidenciar las percepciones puestas en común y aún al parecer de ciudadanos en general.

[EN] This dissertation tried to show the factors that determine the teaching professionalism in our society and that influence the social image of the profession, having as reference the position of primary school teachers. The bibliographical revision process, which was the basis for the theoretical framework in the portrait of the teaching position at the light of the educational society, lightened by the idea of «education through life and for all”. It was tried, mainly, to understand how the societal transformations reflected in the Portuguese school and in the paradigm of the teachers’ performance. The 21st century society appears as a strongly complex society, in a process of fast mutation and confronting us with an uncertain, fluid and vulnerable time. Many questions, centered in the unblinding of the ethos of the profession and social image, caused an empiric study developed around the main problems, dilemmas and ethical challenges of the profession, enhancing the phenomena of social recognition and visibility, considering the teachers’ own perceptions and of other actors, particularly the technical staff, who tried toshow the verbalized perceptions and still the opinion of the citizens.
