La ambientación gótica en la novela "The Thirteenth Tale" de Diane Setterfield: Análisis de las técnicas traductológicas implicadas en el proceso de creación de "El cuento número trece

Abstract

[SP] Este trabajo analiza la traducción de la novela El cuento número trece, escrita por Diane Setterfield y traducida al español por Matuca Fernández de Villavicencio. El objetivo principal es identificar las herramientas utilizadas para transmitir la ambientación gótica característica del género. Para ello, se seleccionan y comparan diferentes extractos de la obra original y su traducción. El interés del estudio radica en examinar técnicas de traducción que permiten crear textos literarios envolventes y reproducir experiencias específicas en el lector. La traducción de novelas góticas plantea un reto particular por su riqueza metafórica y su trasfondo cultural, por lo que resulta oportuno reflexionar sobre este proceso en relación con la evolución histórica del género y aportar orientaciones útiles para la práctica traductológica

[EN] This paper analyzes the translation of the novel The Thirteenth Tale, written by Diane Setterfield and translated into Spanish by Matuca Fernández de Villavicencio. The main objective is to identify the strategies used to convey the distinctive Gothic atmosphere of the genre. To achieve this, selected excerpts from the original work are compared with their Spanish translation. The interest of this study lies in examining translation techniques that help create immersive literary texts and reproduce specific experiences for the reader. Translating Gothic novels presents a particular challenge due to their rich metaphorical language and cultural background, which makes it especially relevant to reflect on this process in relation to the genre’s historical development and to provide useful insights for translation practice.
