«Agárrate las bragas, marichocho»: estrategias de traducción para caracterizar el habla de las drag queens en los subtítulos en inglés de Drag Race España

Abstract

[EN] The aim of this paper is to analyse the English translation for subtitling of Drag Race España; more specifically, it seeks to study the decisions that the translators have made to characterise the way LGTB+ contestants speak. The first part or this research stablishes the theoretical basis on which the analysis will be conducted. In order to do so, notions such as performativity and identity will be studied from a linguistic and translatological perspective. The evolution of Spanish LGTB+ talk will also be addressed. Next, the bibliography on the translation of Drag Race will be reviewed, focusing on the asymmetry between the English and the Spanish LGTB+ sociolects. The second half of this research, which is practical, is composed of the methodology (which offers a description of how the corpus and the analysis model were created) and of the analysis itself, where the translation of the first episode of the first season of Drag Race España will be examined. Finally, the conclusions of this investigation will be drawn, and future research areas will be emphasized

[SP] El presente trabajo nace con el objetivo de analizar la traducción al inglés para subtitulado de Drag Race España; más concretamente, qué decisiones han tomado los traductores para caracterizar el habla LGTB+ de las concursantes. En la primera parte de nuestra investigación, establecemos la base teórica sobre la que realizamos nuestro análisis, para lo que indagamos en nociones como la performatividad y la identidad desde una perspectiva lingüística y traductológica. Asimismo, estudiamos la evolución del habla LGTB+ en el ámbito hispanófono. A continuación, pasamos revista a la literatura sobre la traducción del formato Drag Race y ponemos el foco en la asimetría entre los sociolectos LGTB+ en inglés y en castellano. La segunda parte, práctica, está compuesta por el apartado de metodología —en el que describimos cómo hemos constituido nuestro corpus y nuestro modelo de análisis— y el propio cuerpo del trabajo, en el que desgranamos la traducción del primer episodio de la primera temporada de Drag Race España. Finalmente, extraemos las conclusiones de nuestro estudio y volvemos a hacer hincapié en aquellos ámbitos que todavía pueden explotarse en líneas de investigación futuras.
