dc.description.abstract[ENG] Based on the Dutch novel Boven is het stil (2006) by Gerbrand Bakker and its translation into German, English, French, Italian, Catalan, and Spanish, this article examines the choices literary translators make when translating position and movement from the source language into their target language. According to Talmy's (1985, 1991, 2000) typological framework of motion events, it posits that German and Romance languages belong to different categories: the former being satellite-framed and the latter verb-framed languages. Specifically, this article explores the following questions: Do professional translators of related languages use different strategies than translators of less related languages? To what extent are translators influenced by the individual characteristics of the source text? Does the analysis reveal any general patterns, or is it all about individual solutions? Do individual translation strategies prevail over general language trends? The aim is to demonstrate how studying a corpus of literary translations can provide valuable insights for both seasoned literary translators and those in training.
